New Work: dawn of man

This is the newest in my line of Petroglyph Prints, dawn of man: In the Dreamtime, long before the written word, a new figure appeared on the horizon that would change the world.

I'm having fun with my Petroglyph series of prints. I've always loved mythology and archeology and history, stories, and of course, art. So this series is really combining all my loves into one fun ride! Prints are sale, hope to have a website up soon with the entires series available for sale!

New Work: Dragon Hunters

Dragon Hunters is the newest in my series of Petroglyphs wherein I combine an iPhone photo (or three) and ancient Petroglyphs to tell a story from the Dreamtime era of humanity. Deep within the caves of the dreamtime, hunters do fierce battle with a fire-breathing dragon.

I started with a spill on the sidewalk that looked to me like a dragon.

I had taken this background texture awhile back (not sure what it was supposed to be because it was so out of focus...

And then added a classic clouds at sunset shot to create the fire from the dragon's mouth.

Then I researched warrior petroglyphs and decided on four distinct individuals to partake in this particular hunt...

If you'll notice, hunting back in the day was pretty dangerous, as one of the warriors did not make it...

Contact me to buy a beautiful 8”x 8” digital archival print on Epson Velvet Fine Art Paper or a gorgeous framed edition that measures approximately 16.75 x16.75”. All prints are hand signed. I make each order up just for you, so please allow 2 to 3 weeks for shipment.

New Work: swimming amongst the stars

It's funny, swimming amongst the stars was not the image I set out to create. As I was exploring a new direction with my petroglyph/photography collage, I did some experimenting. While the intent was to only have a photo background, I found this beautiful image of two swans that I took awhile back. I decided to see what I could do with it as I played a bit. As the image progressed, it really started to take on a life of its own.

While the swans turned out well, I did have some issues with the water/starfield blending. It took quite some time to find the correct balance. But the image still looked a bit unfinished. I added the lanterns (hand drawn) and yet, something was still missing. Finally, I came across a constellation map and that turned out to be the exact finish to this piece.

BTW, if you like this image, I am selling digital archival prints (8"x8", 16.75" x16.75" framed), just message me for more information.

New Work: Poseidon's Pool

Poseidon's Pool represents a new direction for me and my artwork. I have always loved mythology and tried to represent it in my artwork and illustrations. Now I feel that I've found the ultimate way to merge the two: combining my photography with petroglyphs to tell the old stories in new ways. The simple line drawings contrast with the vivid photo to create something intricate, familiar, and yet new and interesting. I look forward to exploring this direction and see where it leads...

BTW, you can view (and/or) purchase a gorgeous 8"x8"digital archival print (16.75" x 16.75" framed) of this work at this year's DVAC Member's Show July 12 through August 17 if you live in the Dayton area. If you aren't local and are interested in buying a print, please message me!

Monday Fun: Graphic Design Emergency.

Graphic design is a profession filled with deadlines. Many of them arrive too quickly, no matter how much time we as designers are given on a project. But I've always said, "there's no such thing as a graphic design emergency." And in my decade plus of experience, I've never seen a reason or project that warranted "emergency" status. As a service to my fellow professionals, I finally decided to make this reminder poster  for those times of frantic client calls so that you can make sure your frantic client gets the help they need!

If you like it, you can pick up one at my Zazzle shop.

Free Fonts

I was talking to a friend the other about design related things. Somehow the conversation turned to type and I remarked to her that "free fonts are like a $20 hooker. You never know what you're going to get." She laughed and said, "that would be a great t-shirt." So I made it into a t-shirt and a poster for your enjoyment!

Like this? You can buy it as a poster and/or a t-shirt at my Zazzle shop.
